@Kold word, word, good points. All i'm really saying is a collective of opinions is more representative of what's good than a single person's opinions.\
edit: so when I say I want cole to have more critical sucess it means I want more people to like his albums more. That would likely be the result if he put out an overall "better" album. And he's been gaining more critical success (not just talking about raw review numbers) with every effort

Not even the collective of opinions, i mean that too, but some of these critics have a vast knowledge of music that lot of people dont have. Not saying this is definitive of what you should like or not, but they have a more informed perspective and their opinions should at least hold some weight.

My thing is tho, if you are a rapper, a poet, someone who gets paid and praised off of your creativity and word play...

Why would it be okay to have someone else help you?

I don't care if it was Cole or Kendrick or Pac and Big... If I found out that entire verse or hooks or whatever were written by others it would make me look at them differently.

I know getting help is part of the process, but it just seems wrong... are to try and downplay it or even sweep it under the rug points to you doing something wrong.


Drake needs to go back the the 08 Drake that used to rap with Little Brother. Unless LB was writing those bars...

because at the end of the day a rapper is an artist and an artist job is to paint the visual they have in there mind and if someone can help them look at it in a different picture that they agree is better or achieve the picture they intended the first time there gonna do it

The same critics that have so called vast knowledge are the same type of critics that also say Macklemore has had more impact on hip-hop than Ye. I feel like it's fine to value certain opinions for sure especially when they've proven to have knowledge of hip hop culture, but it's still only opinions at the end of the day and some can be out of touch.

TPAB is the second highest rated album of all time. That is massive for hip hop and there is a reason it happened. It happened because Kendrick is one of the best lyricists (Maybe the best) ever and he had a clear vision for what he wanted. Couple that with all the hype from GKMC and you have your product. The album was super dense which turns a lot of people off, but the quality of lyricism, production and style is objectively undeniable.

K aware me on the macklemore/kanye stuff brah? I mean i could see the point of social impact but musical impact theres no chance.

Point being music isnt as subjective as youre making it out to be. Of course music taste taste is subjective and nobodys opinion is more important than your own when it comes to what you prefer, but there's technical aspects of music that can definitely be looked at objectively. Whether u value those aspects or not it's up to you but if you dont it takes nothing away from the critics.

Good to hear bro. Yeah songs like last nite and someday definitely stand out as dope cruising music and usually favorites. Its a chill album but its so intense and gritty at the same time, i think thats what i love about it. Julian is one of my favorite vocalists too.
