Regardless if you switched songs with the songs on TY, the album's concept was poorly executed. There isn't a clear transition of when the album is supposed to go from darkness to light.

You could tell by the first four bars Cole sold his soul on this one. Slow Jams ain't near as basic as this track. Work Out hook and beat are what are dope for me but you could tell he was forcing s--- for sure.

Work Out would actually be a really dope song if not for the "big old chaaaaaaaains ... big old raaaaaaange" opening bars

the actual lyrics themselves aren't that bad but the delivery is awful, don't know why he felt the need to do that

the delivery makes those bars bleached a------ level bad

besides that work out still a good song but actually cuda been great imo if he just took some more time on the bars

its recapping the whole situation basically the whole first half of the album which was dark and why cole did it, saying "he went to h--- to resurrect it (hiphop)" which nas said was dead, yet nas failed to "respect it" / cole's sacrifice for the game

that delivery is so cringe why he had to do that

besides that tho A1 song, the hook is great, bridge is great all that

then again who knows how his career would have went if he never had that song be such a "disappointment" and send him into a depression which ultimately made him better in the end ...
