I dont get the young thug hate. well, I get it but i just think it's unwarranted.

Once you get past the fact that not all musicians have an obligation to create music that's geared towards societal advancement and are able to listen with an open mind, you'll see he is actually very skilled. Young thug has a very good ear for pitch, crazy/diverse flows and rhythms, is original and creative... He talks about the life that surrounds him, at times it's a harsh look at reality, other times he can delve into his personal love life. i can appreciate the artistry behind his music, even if it doesn't fit what I think is a positive message.

Funny, how we are able to praise a tv show or movie as GOAT if it's well shot, written, acted, produced, etc, even if it happens to glamorize s--- that we don't agree with. however, when it comes to rappers, of all people, we hold them hostage to a certain style/subject matter and if they happen to explore past that they're trash.

We should just appreciate art for what it is. /rant

At the end of the day I get crazy flows/deliveries of thug and I commend him for it and I like some of his songs. But as an artist, I still can't buy into him considering to the lack of substance and by that I don't mean social commentary, I just means something worth rapping about. Too much of the time, he's not saying much worth listening to and a guy like future encompasses all those qualities you mentioned way better.

I feel like young thug could possibly grow as an artist like future did so I'll give him time.

I mean I respect that, it's definitely not for everybody. I actually like Thug better than Future even though I love some of Future's songs and understand the attraction. I was mainly referring to people dismissing thug as garbage because he didnt fit their idea of what a rapper should be. That's close minded and that's what I cant get with.

To address your point directly tho, I feel like his songwriting mainly relies on a very superficial unfiltered depiction of himself. By that I mean he gives glimpses of what's on his mind, whether that's him indulging in drug use, getting his first big check, proposing to his girlfriend etc. Thats what I actually like about it, at times it seems random but it gives it a sense unpredictability and it's interesting just listening to his mind wander. Thats just me personally. he's not my favorite song writer, I actually used to hate his lyrics but I guess I learned to appreciate the way he expresses himself.

The most disturbing quote of this report:

Not only the culture of brutality of police needs to be changed, but the accepted negligence by those in positions capable of preventing/curing these types of ills.

It makes me sick to see how terrified the other students are. They look paralyzed by fear. And the other administrator/teacher present has body language indicating that he wanted to do something but didn't act?? Was he in fear of facing violence from the cop? f--- all the adults in charge that played a part in this.

I don't think we're close minded bro. Young thug has no substance, you can barely understand what he raps about, his lyrics makes no sense whatsoever, the way he portrays himself is deplorable. I'm a black man, a proud black man. Instead of representing black people positively, he's taking us back. For that, he's garbage. Nothing close-minded by that at all. He's just not good.

This whole racial thing is something I can't objectively speak about cause that s--- don't exist here to that extent. You have some nationality issues and that's about it. You don't have cops or even people killing around other people. Nah. Here is just low life standard where everyone drinks, gets high and mostly never live up to their potential. So I just watch this madness from far away.

As far as the substance matter, it just depends on what you consider substance I guess. His music is full of substance as in, him speaking on his life experiences either positive or negative in his own unique way. I understand him fine, so I never understood that criticism. And his lyrics make a lot of sense to me. like I mentioned before theyre glimpses of his wandering mind, so they can seem random at times but theyre more than coherent.
On to the matter of him portraying black people in a bad light, that's an awfully harsh criticism of a young man who is simply expressing himself and depicting a picture of the life that surrounded him growing up. It is a portrayal of a tough reality more than anything. Which brings me back to my first point on the subject. Rappers do not have an obligation to raise the state of their community and it is very unfair to expect them to. Refer to my comparison of movies/tv shows. They are artists and theyre allowed to express themselves however they please. It is not a rappers duty to fix societal issues.
To me open mindedness ia recognizing someones art for what it is, even if it isnt something you neccesarily rock with. Thats where my close minded comment came from no offense intended
