Dec 21, 2015 ok @trivio I know you got a hard on for reel hip hop but misinterpreting a j Cole quote from bout a year ago? C'mon you can do better.
Dec 21, 2015 I have man, I used to have an ownership role in J. Cole Nation so I'm very familiar with not only his discography, but his public image/opinions/persona. 03' Adolescence is a good song, but it's vintage Cole storytelling. Future exposes his personal feelings and his experiences in his music at a much deeper level than almost any "conscious" rapper does.
Dec 21, 2015 But like @Kvp187 said, Cole and his camp got no issues with either Thug or Future's music. That's documented. This whole thread is a reach, and then people posting replies to the flawed conclusion rather than the gap in logic itself.
Dec 21, 2015 Mike, I disagree with your first post but I can respect your opinion Now to everybody. You are in denial a little. It's obvious who he is adressing. I'm not saying he's not cool with some of these people, you don't have to hate the person behind the music. But it's obvious who he is adressing so stop calling this a reach. It's called connecting the dots and he's certainly not talking about Kendrick or Q. If you guys seriously think Cole spends time on songs like that, you're being in denial. I'd love to see like a "Cole listening to Trap Queen for the first time reaction" video.
Dec 21, 2015 Well, Cole kinda renegaded Kanye and some of his so called chosen ones, so I don't think who Kanye choses to be the future really matters that much Anywhere, this thread is a reach.
Dec 22, 2015 its beyond a reach. its baiting. its also very stupid this entire thread should be tossed in the recycle bin
Dec 22, 2015 Thug isn't even "trap" he's just "Hip-Hop" in general, going to be the next Wayne..and probably even bigger in the next 5 or so years I agree that Trap music is just horrible, but I would never put Thugger on a list of Trap rappers; or trap music in general If you want good "Trap Music" I suggest you listen to TI's album by the same name
Dec 22, 2015 Lmao. I love My savages and I know this is off topic but this song isn't more personal than runaway, 03 adolescence or rich niggaz and those are all on his studio albums. Again I love this track but there are certain layers to Cole songs that future songs don't have when we are talking about personal songs imo.
Dec 22, 2015 its not 1993. times change. the genre is evolving. trap can have just as much meaning as any conscious record if they wanted to. trap is actually more ahead of its time than anything j cole is doing.
Dec 22, 2015 I don't really see Future mumbling to trap beats as ahead of its time, but what the h--- do I know
Dec 22, 2015 you mustve not heard any of the songs from his 5 peat. go listen to beast mode, monster, 56 nights, wattba, and ds2. peep future's writing credits while your at it. you might be surprised.
Dec 22, 2015 Ye, I was actually being sincere when I said I don't know much of his discography. I listened to the wattba tape and that really didn't help to motivate me to listen to his tapes. I like some of his singles and his verse from Rocky's album tho, so if his albums or mix tapes are better than that, I'll peep.
Dec 22, 2015 rap is moving toward a more aesthetic and sound driven genre, and future has a huuuuge influence on this era of rappers. its a movement and people who are stuck on the lyrical generic type rap usually arent very open to it but its all good.
Dec 22, 2015 I don't want to make this a Cole vs Future thread so I'll just try to illustrate this briefly but: Cole has often talked about cheating in his music, it's a central theme to a lot of his songs. But with that, he's scratching the surface. Like I said in that post, his music is often about interpersonal themes, not personal. 03' Adolescence is story telling Cole (at his finest) - even if it's inspired by true feelings, there is no doubt some use of creative license. Future isn't scared to expose himself, and not just a semi-fictional version of himself. Again, this is not a Cole vs Future argument I'm perpetuating, I'm just trying to illustrate how much more Future is than just a "trap rapper" so let's compare him to Drake instead. Artists like Cole and Drake (Drake more than Cole) are great at giving listeners 'just enough' when it comes to these type of songs. How many times have we heard Drake rap about the girl who never believed in him, or the once innocent girl who is now "grown up"? These are general themes in his music, but he has never delved in to them and really exposed himself. No comments on the Rihanna relationship (or the many that failed) the way Future refers to the Ciara break up, etc. Obviously Drake is capable as he's given us music like "Look What You've Done" but the point is so is Future. And he's really good at it. So when the OP quoted J. Cole in saying he doesn't like trap music, and then takes that to conclude that J. Cole doesn't like Future, he's missing it with Future. That's all I'm saying, I'm not knocking Cole.
