Sep 13, 2015 So I am pretty pissed right now. My computer did a reboot cycle and while I was up doing something else, I came back and noticed it was scanning and "repairing" my external hard drive. Once it was done and my computer turned on, I noticed I have NO files on the drive past March 2014... So I'm missing 17 months worth of files. This is not f---ing good and I don't know why it happened. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone know how I can get these files back? This is really important, thanks..!
Sep 13, 2015 What could've caused it? I was just working on my computer per usual and the computer itself restarted without warning. Then it started "repairing" my external hard drive which has had no prior issues. siiiiiiiiiighh
Sep 13, 2015 backup what you can (thats available) so you dont lose anymore. use a scanning software to find any recoverable files from the corrupted directory (depending on if its a logical or physical issue) the problem here was that you didnt make a backup since that time in which it saved files
Sep 13, 2015 The problem is, the external drive is my backup. I put a majority of my files there for safe keeping (obviously backfired)..... downloaded EaseUS and it's finding a bunch of s--- but of course I probably gotta pay for it to actually restore the files.
Sep 13, 2015 s--- man :/ tbh i use the backup for everything important, my media is actually on my backup yet stil having direcotry in my desktop n s--- as such nothing is on my main drive lol, except for programs i use, everything is on my backup
Sep 13, 2015 I keep things on my drive for when I bounce from computer to computer (programs like blender, flash, maya, etc.) as well as storage for my personal photos and such. this is like a really big kick in the balls. the upside is this program is finding them at least. Hopefully the price isn't unreasonable because I'm willing to pay smh
Sep 13, 2015 That sucks man, I've been there. A couple years ago the same thing happened to me, lost 4 years of pictures and a ton of other stuff. I brought it to a data doctors place too, paid like $80 and they couldn't recover anything. Since then now I back up everything to 2 separate 500gb hard drives, and I store the most important stuff on Dropbox as a 3rd backup. Not risking it again Hope you can somehow get it back!
Sep 13, 2015 What sucks is I just bought a 2 TB external hard drive as an extra backup a few months ago but never got around to putting it to use... REALLY f---ing regretting it now
Sep 14, 2015 @Loyalty @DetroitSkills (tagging you guys since you offered input) idk what the f--- happened but slowly the missing files are reappearing on their own. also do either of you know what "The Recycle Bin on Drive F is corrupted. Empty it now?" means? I don't wanna hit yes and totally f--- something up lmao. I didn't even know it had a recycle bin :S Drive F is the external hard drive.
Sep 14, 2015 Every drive has one called $Recycle.bin. Use the "Unhide option" from the Folder Options, you should be able to see the folder and its content. can you give me a run down on your drives? like my main is c back up is Z etc? my fear is that if you do click yes, it may contain some of files that have gone missing, they couldve gotten corrupted ad dumped, so dont do that yet just ignore til we know its not lol
Sep 14, 2015 Main is C, Recovery D, External F the recycle bin thing is filled with a bunch of folders with names like SDLJ99080930498-3098098ADSF
