Apr 3, 2026 at 6:37 PM Ice Cube was one of the best writers in the rap industry. He wrote all of Eazy E’s lyrics and Dre’s on the N.W.A albums. Essentially he was the Eminem to thier d12…. Yeah I just compared d12 to N.W.A. It’s sacrilegious. No but seriously, Ice Cube was and still is an amazing lyricist. That’s probably why Rakim put him up there so high because without N.W.A. Lyrics the new age of rap and birth of gangsta rap in the mainstream probably never would have happened
Apr 3, 2026 at 6:39 PM I get why Ice Cube is there. He’s definitely one of the greats. I just think he gets overrated when it comes to these top rapper lists. I think there’s a lot of rappers that are better than him. I still like a lot of his music though and respect what he did for hip hop. I even have an Ice Cube T-shirt. I could understand him being in the top 20 or top 30 a lot more than top 10. I think sometimes when making these lists people forget just how many great rappers there are.
