Jan 16, 2026 I think the online reactions and this that do reaction videos blew it all up. Imagine that wasn't a thing. That album would have came and went and the only fans talking about it would be on sites like this or Reddit. No different than previous albums. Good and bad but I think with that album it really was an over reaction and people wanted to get a rise out of him.
Jan 16, 2026 The funny thing is Revival is lauded in hindsight as “the bad one” and “the fall of” when in reality Recovery, MMLP2, Revival, Kamikaze and MTBMB are all as equally terrible as eachother in their own ways. Doss is only slightly more bearable.
Jan 16, 2026 My experience is in contradiction with what you are saying. I find Recovery to be an incredible album comparable, if not in some ways better than the first 3, and MTBMB as the return to form we were waiting.
Jan 16, 2026 so i just relistened to revival, kamikaze and mtbmb a+b for the first time in years. i must say, they’re not nearly as bad as i’d been remembering. a couple skips here and there but overall some really great rhymes, beats and deliveries, all steadily improving. now… all of this being said, listening to this run after listening to sslp-mmlp2, is like reading the second half of flowers for algernon

Jan 16, 2026 Recovery is cohesive, thematic (the theme being recovery, victory, it sounds triumphant throughout). There are no skippable tracks to me. I even enjoy Won't Back Down, for which I still fail to see problems others swear are obvious. SSLP has My Fault, 97' Bonnie and Clyde. Not saying these are bad songs, but My Fault is boring, and Bonnie and Clyde gets old quickly. MMLP has Kim, Under the Influence, and an unlistenable verse from Bizarre on Amittyville which ruins the song if I want to play it without skipping. TES has Drips, When the Music Stops, Say What You Say. Plus, I have a problem with all albums, including Recovery, in that I just ignore first singles after the album is released. But maybe most importantly, first 3 albums have skits that ruin the flow of the album. Especially the dreaded Ken Kaniff skit from MMLP. Why the h--- would anyone one to listen to that? Recovery is free of those. Just a smooth listening experience from beginning to end. I do care less about WTP and So Bad, but once they actually play I find myself enjoying them too. So as a listening experience and thematically, there is something soothing in Recovery. Feels good. And with time, SSLP and MMLP show their age. Maybe MMLP even more because now it seems more like an edgy teenage angst. The common criticism of Recovery are exaggerated: yelling, bad punchlines, poppy beats. These are not prominent at all. I am aware the highs of the first 3 are above Recovery, but that's why I said "in some ways better", not necessarily just flat out better.

Jan 16, 2026 REVIVAL is honestly still one of his best albums. Every year it ages even better, and you’re starting to see the negative online discourse change into people calling it a classic. In due time my friends.
Jan 16, 2026 tbh people may hate me for saying this but i played it today adding the chlora remix and i’m twisted freestyle in place of wow, river and bad husband, and i enjoyed it as much as i enjoy recovery or mmlp2
