And a lot of people just follow suit or critical consensus, not that Goodfellas isn't hugely critically acclaimed too, and also mentioned as one of the greatest films ever, but because The Godfather has a sort of grandeur to it and is older, and people have mentioned it for so long, people think they should also say it's the greatest. Even though I bet a large majority of people who say that, watch it and feel it's just okay/good. Lmaoo, breh, I hadn't seen the Family Guy clip but just checked it... 'it insists upon itself'.
