Aug 21, 2023 I remember randomly waking up at like 2 am and checked twitter and seeing that Em had dropped MTBMB and immediately went to apple music and was excited about the features right off the bat especially seeing Juice WRLD on there… Production was great off first listen, I felt pretty good about the album He’ll never make another eminem show again in his life but thats okay lol
Aug 21, 2023 Most people loved it when it dropped then they started reading the hate comments knitpicking comments and they change their minds
Aug 21, 2023 You guys are revising history, Side B was very divisive. You’re allowed to like stuff without invalidating others’ criticism.
Aug 21, 2023 The truth is most songs on MMLP2 and Revival were unlistenable and there's been a huge improvement since then, especially considering he's gotten older and artists absolutely don't get better with time. But he's still not as great as he used to be and that comparison will always ruin everything even when things are more or less good
Aug 21, 2023 Side B was good. But it just shows Em is coasting. He ain’t writing smash singles or anthems as much. I hope the lead single is more like Without me. He can save the rappity rap songs for the album
Aug 21, 2023 Side B was only given to us cause everyone was quarantining and literally every artist was dropping deluxes that year
Aug 21, 2023 Most tracks on MMLP2 were not unlistenable lol. Bad Guy, Rhyme or Reason, So Much Better, Survival, Rap God, The Monster, So Far, Love Game, Evil Twin...
Aug 21, 2023 If people say they don’t like it it’s cos they’re copying other people’s opinions. They’re afraid of saying they like the music of the best selling rapper in history
Aug 21, 2023 It’s been years since he last dropped a project, people have already rated his discography 5000 times already, you should expect people to speak on the improvements they want from one of their favourite rappers. It’s a f---ing forum.
Aug 21, 2023 I think people misconstrue what the criticisms are, people don't need him to rap like he use to, if he wants to rap in the style he does now that's fine. But there's multiple glaring issues that are easily fixable that would be objectively positive changes. h--- it's not like his "new style" is all that new anymore, he's had multiple songs and even albums where he's doing the same thing he's doing now but better lol, and that's what's making some of the regressions feel even worse.
Aug 21, 2023 Bad Guy has a good concept and a great ending but it sounds like s--- Rhyme or Reason is funny and that's it So Far??????????????????????????????? Love Game has two good verses and a terrible beat
Aug 21, 2023 I stopped calling myself a "fan", cause nowadays it seems that in order to be a fan you gotta s--- the artist's d-ck 24/7 and consume anything and everything they do without questioning a single thing
Aug 21, 2023 Rhyme or Reason isn't just funny. Flow, tonality, delivery, hook, vibe of the whole song is dope asf. So Far is also dope as f---.
Aug 21, 2023 Idk if at this point it's because most of us are over analyzing what Em puts out or if it really is bad. Probably both. It'd be interesting to show someone who has never heard Em before MMLP/TES/Kamikaze/MTBMB and ask him which albums he likes.
Aug 21, 2023 Music discourse is so toxic these days. You either have to be a Stan or a hater and there’s nothing allowed in between even though music is the exact type of thing that requires nuance. And then you have people on social media who just post extreme opinions to farm engagement which results in more unfruitful conversation about music
Aug 21, 2023 I have an actual anecdote regarding this. My friend never listened to music & only got into it along with rap the month Revival dropped in 2017 (lol) — so we dove into his whole discography from start to finish. His favourite projects ended up being The Eminem Show, then MMLP, then SSLP. Then when Kamikaze dropped, half a year later, that moved into his second favourite, beating MMLP! But TES remained no1, whether there’s bias from it being his first experience of a rollout? Who knows, but I just thought I’d share that as it’s very interesting. I do personally think that Kamikaze Em is the best Em we’ve heard since Encore, even if MTBMB was probably more fleshed out overall, he was on fire in 2018.
