Eminem with XV and since XV is hit or miss. I like some of the things he releases nowadays, but I also don't f--king like some of the things he releases nowadays.
First time I listened to KND was good. I want to get that feeling with more of his songs. And I hate the fact that when Eminem releases something these days , before the song/feature starts my first thought is: "I hope the flow is gonna be good/and I hope I'm gonna understand what he says, hope he won't go supersonic mode". Too bad I end up disappointed. Example: Phenomenal

Yea, Phenomenal had so much potential. Then he makes some stupid decisions to f--- it up, especially 2nd verse. Starts nice, picks up, then goes into Martha Stewart before rebounding back, then he has that "I WANT YOU TO SAY THAT" cheese to end that verse. And on the first verse, when he puts on the nerdy tone "Throw s--- at the wall but nothing's gonna stick until you apply yourself"... just some bad choices on delivery that don't have any rhythm to it. 3rd verse is on point though and hook is fire.

Even with as f----- as the subject matter was on Relapse, he still had great melodies and GREAT production which is the excuse so many other rappers get but for some reason not Eminem. A lot of Recovery was either melodramatic shyt or cluttered with horrible puns. Some really good songs like Spacebound, Seduction, Going Through Changes and even LTWYL. But then there are cringeworthy earsores like Almost Famous and Cold Wind Blows with melodies that make me want to blow my brains out.

MMLP2 was a huge step up. "Bad Guy" alone blew everything he did since returning barring a few songs out of the water. The lyricism improved dramatically and the concepts and the approach were way less boring and mundane than Recovery. Look at the approach on songs like Headlights, Rhyme or Reason, Legacy, Brainless, The Monster (again an annoying hit, but he showed up on that track) Survivor was probably the low but that was for Call of Duty, otherwise Em probably wouldve replaced it with Dont Front. The bonus tracks were Godly as well. Clearly this album was way more introspective and honest then Recoverys superhero shyt. The production left something to be desired, but if Dre exec produced that joint and not Rubin that album might have been incredible. The classic rock stuff and the disorriented production was where I had a disconnect with MMLP2. It was like I was listening from mashups from 3 different albums, stylistically.

Shady XV was probably his least flawed performance since returning. His lyricism, bar for bar, blew me away. Especially on Psychopath Killers, Vegas, Right for Me and ShadyXV. It was another huge step up on this project with his brutal honesty on some tracks (Fine Line, Die Alone, Guts Over Fear). I probably enjoyed what he did on there way more than other people here, I dont think he had even had one verse even close to bad on here.

Now in 2015 he started the year off with "Best Friend" a phenomenal f--king track. This song doesnt get enough credit man. I knew hed have a good year after dropping that and he did. Kings Never Die and Medicine Man are great tracks. Phenomenal was good for what it was. Only shyt I hated was Speedom, it was an earsore.

Honestly I have every reason to be excited for his next album especially since he's acknowledged the flaw with some of his flows and he listens to his fans. His music has been at an uptrend for 5 years imo, but of course youre inclined to your own opinion. What I will say is if you keep comparing modern Eminem to 28 year old prime Eminem, you will never be satisfied no matter what he drops. He will never be what he once was. Take it in individually without other peoples opinons clouding your judgment and you might come to enjoy some of it.

At least you have certain grounds to base your opinion on unlike the stans on here

Im not personally trying to compare him now to his old work because that will never happen but what I have noticed is that I skip a lot more tracks now than I did before and I just have lost interest in his music and that shows signs to me that his music has no foundation and no particular direction or captivation

Some of his lyrics are impressive but that really isn't enough for me

Music isn't just about 1 aspect, its about every aspect coming together and working

I would say his last song that really worked as a whole was GTC with a few small stand out moments after (GOF, Fine Line)

Actually fully agree with you there, there have been a few exceptional songs 09-present (and GTC is the absolute best of them), but everything else has just completely overshadowed it.

thats precisely whats happened. What makes it worse for me was the Relapse phase. Relapse was garbage but at least his flow was still impeccable. And then on Refill, it sounded like the accent was beginning to fade away and he was slowly reverting back to his normal self (like on 3rd verse of Music Box). I dont know what the f--- happened in between Refill and Recovery but its just been completely downhill all the way from there, with those few exceptions that you mentioned before.

I feel as though he's traded in his appealing sound for complexity. Relapse/Recovery/HTS may have had corny punchlines but the overall sound and feel was appealing as f--- like I could easily ignore what he said in one line due to the fact that it still sounded appealing from the way it was said. And MMLP2 for me was a good improvement for Eminem because technically he was on a high (I didn't mind the choppy flow at all during that album because it sounded impressive but still appealing) plus the rhyme schemes and vibe of the album still sounded good. Personally, I think it was once he released Shady XV that he started to take it too far. The complexity just became awkward sounding and he over done the speedy flows to the point that it would sound unimpressive if he held back a bit so he began to fall awkwardly on the beat to try make his medium paced flows sound more complicated in the future (Phenomenal). The verse on 'Psychopath Killer' and the verses on 'Right For Me' just sounded so painfully awkward because it felt like he was trying to over complicate everything and cram in as much as he could to the point it felt offbeat. After Phenomenal came out I feel as though my first thoughts before I listen to a new Eminem song now is that I hope he stays on beat...which is f---ing tragic considering that's one of the most basic things you need to even be considered an average rapper. I just hope Phenomenal was recorded first for the Southpaw Soundtrack because the flows on Raw, All I think About, KND and Medicine Man are much better.
I feel as though if he stopped with the complicated flows and focused on a subject matter other than being an underdog (which was understandable for the Soundtrack) we would enjoy his music much more
