I completely understand the hate he gets. The guy was untouchable when he first came out up until 8 Mile then suffered one of the biggest fall offs in recent musical history for someone of that caliber/popularity. He comes back and isn't the same artist. Relapse had some great tracks, but as a whole was a disappointment and overshadowed by the accent. Recovery had some great tracks, but was completely different from what he used to stand for a decade prior, had s-----y production and was littered with corny punchlines. MMLP2 was solid imo, but lacked replay value and should have been titled literally anything else. While he still puts out amazing songs from time to time, the consistency he had at the front end of his career has vanished.

As a fan it's frustrating. I really believe the talent is still there (e.g., Bad Guy, Evil Twin, Deja Vu, Fine Line, All I Think About, and Medicine Man) but he's limited himself with these different deliveries (accent, shouting, fast raps, and choppy flow) and is much too inconsistent. It's apparent he's lacked direction and content for the second part of his career. While I admire he's made every album unique in sound and substance, it's been pretty hit or miss recently for the casual music listener as well as long time fans. The more recent underdog, "they hated me but I'm back and you can do anything you put your mind to" rhyme every syllable routine is now played the f--- out as well.

I think he's cognizant of the criticism since Relapse and really taking his time on the next album.I'm anxious to see what direction he goes and I hope it's the best album since TES, but there's really no indication it will be any better than his last three albums. My biggest critique is his flow/delivery and I just want a normal laid back delivery (maybe layered vocals again).

Regardless, any news or new songs will get both haters and fans talking.

I don't agree that if you listen to Em you don't listen to anything else's. I have to be honest been lurking around GNRs message board lately and d--- its no different from here fans hating on the band. Way more fans bitching. I was a little shocked that the gunners are still pulling in such a huge crowd. What I'm trying to say is why take it so seriously. Love him hate him he's an entertainer.
