May 17, 2018 In Your Head is rubbish. He took an amazing sample and a song that had great potential, and pretty much ruined it. That second verse is such a struggle to get through, it’s so forced and horrible. Almost zero replay value, like the rest of the album.
May 17, 2018 Yeah, it's werid too... like the rest of Revival songs, some of them have all the elements which normally make an Eminem song replayable to me - like: cool flow: tick / repeated, complex rhyme schemes: tick / range of emotion in the writing: humour, anger, regret: tick / but for some reason I just go 'eh' and don't want to listen to them. I think it's because it all feels contrived. Even though lots of his material would have been contrived, or acted or exaggerated... it REALLY feels like that with Revival and him and Porter confirmed it but saying they actively tried to make something for everyone. Setting out to make an album with a bit of each kind of song, as a goal... is just really bizarre and unnatural. Great albums are 'create, create, create... okay now let's take away what's needed and arrange this into something'... not 'okay we need to create a bit of x, a bit of y, a bit z, let's go', that's making the mindset and material totally false and contrived from the outset. And you can hear it. You can hear it in the writing and the music, like In Your Head sounds totally fake to me. "Did it, did what?", it sounds like he's just babbling, like some imitator trying to write a classic Eminem song, doing an impersonation of it. He's forcing and repeating nothingness and trying to present it as emotional depth. But it just is like a piece of glass, we can see straight through it like 'eh, nah, this isn't it mate'. Whole album is just a false piece of s---.
