Sep 21, 2022 Guys send this thread to Paul Rosenberg. I mean, I know he is here. But y'all should Tweet it to him or send it via IG. I'm sure he'll care and pass it on to Em, who will also care.
Sep 21, 2022 So you think people think revival is s--- (to this day btw and it's been 5 years) just because they initially disliked the tracklist? Thas fkn r-----ed As soon as I put it on my soul drained. Then I heard some of his worst production, worst feature hooks and cringiest puns ever, plus I'm like wtf this has no theme or sound, it's just trying to appease every part of his fan base at once. I think it's s--- because it is. As does every one else.
Sep 21, 2022 also because he did those type of songs since Recovery over and over again. It was stale at that time but some of it was better than on Recovery where it was new.
Sep 21, 2022 I have a theory about this. They drastically changed the album, including much of the tracklist, because of the BET cypher with Em dissing Trump. That cypher was one of the most popular things Em had done in a while, and it came out between the rollout for Revival starting, and when the album actually came out. They saw how popular the cypher was, assumed people wanted Em to talk about politics, figured they had enough material to scrape together a "political" album, and went for it. The original drug-themed rollout suggests the album would've been a more fun Slim Shady type album -- maybe songs like Chloraseptic and Framed would've been on that album. But the other really obvious piece of evidence is that Revival, in its actual released form, isn't really that political. It has Like Home, a rushed anti-Trump anthem, Untouchable, and Nowhere Fast. Other than that, the most you get are a few throwaway lines about Trump on Framed and Heat, and a few references to the working class/minimum wage on Believe and Offended, all of which could've easily been added to those songs in the eleventh hour, or otherwise happened to be there and helped cobble together a vaguely political album. Beyond that, they just chose a bunch of songs that sounded more serious in tone. It was such a harebrained idea that the album ends up sounding like a confused mishmash of songs.
Sep 21, 2022 Yeah, there's that... and also though... Recovery was cohesive. For all its flaws... all those songs sounded at home together. Wheras... 'Chloraseptic' vs. 'Need Me' for example? WHAT?? the album was ALL over the place. Just desperately swinging for a KO like Wilder
Sep 22, 2022 Yeah, I mean he's always said political stuff, but I think you right. All the Revival drug adverts were dropped. Then the cover had him draped in an American flag. You can't tell me that was the plan the whole time.
Sep 22, 2022 This is fun but probably a bs. First of all, Trump freestyle went kinda viral but it was mostly ridiculed and turned his fans against him. I think that he had many trump voters in his fanbase and he kinda lost them maybe it was also one of the causes of Revival selling soo low and he had a hard time reaching the numbers he made before. Plus, he would have admitted by now if that was the case, look how he talks about ENcore songs being leaked so early on and he was too lazy and under the influence to record serious s---, he just felt like having dumbass fun in the studio and put those on the album. He would deifnitely mentioned they changed the songs for some reason etc.
Sep 22, 2022 Btw, I recently listened to Revival and it flowed smoothly. It definitely sounds a lot better with some quality headphones or in ears. Plus the production and rock influenced beats, pop hooks kinda went well for me. It felt fresh and different. I remember feeling like that when I listened to it back in 2020 or something like that too. It's not the album to repeatedly listen to, but once a year kinda feels like a fresh air among all the similar sounding trap sounds in hip hop. And I definitely need to say that the content, his delivery and voice on that album is underrated. It's a very interesting album, depending on when are you listenin' to it, it can feel very average at best and definitely good lmao.
Sep 22, 2022 If Trump didn't happen: Album cover would be different. Like Home doesn't exist. Untouchable isn't a single. And a few Trump one-liners wouldn't be on an album. Otherwise, it would be the same album. Doesn't seem like the tracklist was influenced at all. It has 2-3 drug/recovery tracks. And 2-3 political tracks. Revival was a mish-mash of lots of random songs without much of a concept. I'm sure the events that happened at the time changed the marketing, but not the product itself.
Sep 22, 2022 I think Revival is dogshit and it's disappointing to hear that Em doesn't understand why. I kinda get it though. He went with a pop sound for Recovery and it was incredibly successful. It continued with s--- like Lighters and The Monster. Revival is worse, but it has the same DNA.
Sep 22, 2022 Most peope would say sslp mmlp and tes are top 3, and his worst album is anyone of the following 5, Encore, Relapse, Recovery, MMLP2 or Revival.. people rank them differently.. i personally love Recovery but whatever.. objectively, i dont see why people view Revival as so much worse than any of the other of those five albums.. they may have different sound but they are just bad in different ways depending on what kind of sound u like..
Sep 22, 2022 I rather listen to Bad Husband and In Your Head for example, than Insane, Bagpipes, Big Weenie, So Far, a------…
Sep 23, 2022 And good in different ways. Albums prior to Kamikaze are not Perfect but I wouldn't call them trash or anything.
Sep 23, 2022 He isnt wrong tho, I looked at the tracklist and just knew it would be trash. The Album actually being trash didnt help either.
