lol it wasn’t just AK. Every f---ing hip hop news source picked up the story. I’m sorry you’re not a true hip hop fan. Or, you’re in denial wanting to think not a single person knew about drakes kid. Idk how someone couldn’t have heard about the thot drake knocked up way before the Pusha diss.

I mean you're just factually incorrect...if you look at google trends, you can see that Ak or anyone reporting that back in May 2017 didn't move the needle at all because everyone dismissed it as tabloid bs or didn't care. But in May 2018 when push came out with Addidon, that's the highest point for these search terms (and any other variations like "drake kid" or "drake has a child" or "drake dad" etc.). Push caused almost double the google searches for this s--- compared to when Drake's actual album came out and confirmed it himself.

It wasn’t the only thing the track had to offer but that was the main headline after the track was released. “Omg Drake has a kid!” He told us like 2-3 weeks before Drake would have revealed it himself on Scorpion. There’s no way you can tell me the reception of Adidon isn’t significantly different had it come out post Scorpion.

I think it's totally unfair to mark the song down based on a hypothetical. Of course the song would have been received differently if the thing it exposed had already been exposed.

I’m not really marking it down. I just think the timing of its release is why people overrate it. The whole “drake’s hiding a kid!!” narrative took off & that wouldn’t have had it already been known. As MIC said, the whole kid angle was just overblown. Good diss, 40 shots were clever/funny, poking fun at drake’s insecurity w/ his race & parents relationship was nice. But like....it’s really nothing all that special lol.

That's just another hypothetical. The fact of the matter is that Push baited Drake into responding with the regular Quinten Miller/ghost writing jabs on Infrared and then Drake released Duppy and took it a step further by mentioning Push's fiance. How did he think Push was gonna respond when he brought family into it? The timing is Drake's own fault. His own album rollout was plagued with talk of another rapper who dissed him and him being a deadbeat dad. And he's the one who took an extra month for his album to drop to record subs at push and kanye lol.

Drake was a rapper who most thought was impervious to something like this after the whole Meek thing. You can say the diss itself isn't as good as, like Takeover or No Vaseline and I'd def agree with you, but I think it's disingenuous to not take into account the conversation surrounding it and the aftermath. Scorpion got middling reviews, while DAYTONA (which did come out before ofc, but it had Infrared on it which is relevant to the beef) got rave reviews. Drake was relentlessly clowned while Pusha T's star power went up.

Even Drake admitted his L on this one and he was clearly still pissed enough at Push that he wouldn't even mention his name in that interview lol. Obviously Drake is still probably the most popular rapper in the world, but an L is an L. It's not like Ether ruined Jay-Z's career even though most people think it's the better diss vs. Takeover.

Yeah I just relistened to Addidon for the first time in like a year, this is great diss. This part digs so deeply into Drake's insecurities:

You mention wedding ring like it's a bad thing
Your father walked away at five—h--- of a dad thing
Marriage is somethin' that Sandi never had, Drake
How you a winner but she keep comin' in last place?
    Monkey-suit Dennis, you parade him
    A Steve Harvey-suit n----- made him
Confused, always felt you weren't Black enough
Afraid to grow it 'cause your 'fro wouldn't nap enough
    Since you name-dropped my fiancée
Let 'em know who you chose as your Beyoncé
Sophie knows better as your baby mother
Cleaned her up for IG, but the stench is on her
    A baby's involved, it's deeper than rap
We talkin' character, let me keep with the facts
You are hiding a child, let that boy come home
Deadbeat mothafucka playin' border patrol, ooh
    Adonis is your son
And he deserves more than an Adidas press run; that's real
Love that baby, respect that girl
Forget she's a pornstar, let her be your world, yuugh!

Yeah but you can believe Drake took an L without believing Adidon was this incredible record. Drake has said himself that Push made a great chess move. I think that stands: Push played his cards perfectly. Put Drake in a position where he really couldn’t respond unless he a) really got disrespectful or b) found out something equally as shocking. His inner circle didn’t want to do a) & b) really wasn’t an option because of how popular he is.

Context aside, there’s just nothing particularly special about the diss track. Takeover had the heavy guitar rifts, Jay rapping so aggressively that it almost sounds like he’s threatening the listener: “n----s will kidnap your babies, spit at your lady; I don’t care if you Mobb Deep, I hold triggers to crews.” Compared to Push making fun of Drake’s hair lol. Again, the later is funny, there’s just levels to this & a lot of y’all let the hype cloud your better judgement imo.

I think similarly with Ether, Nas being an underdog & mentioning Em, really is what won him the public opinion. It wasn’t until years later after the dust had settled & people were like...well...a lot of these bars don’t really hit as hard. The constant gay jokes & claiming jay took taekwondo? Did eminem really k--- him on Renegade? Circumstances can only carry your record for so long & in the following years down the line, same will be said for Adidon imo.

How anyone can say this diss is over-rated is beyond me. Pusha was cold blooded. Attacked his pride, spoiled his business. The cover alone, but with that beat as well? Drake's son will forever be tied to a song that talks about his mother's stench.

I disagree. I like this diss for some of the same reasons I like MGK’s diss against Em: it digs so deeply into their insecurities beyond just regular rap flexes—it gets into stuff that no other rapper had the balls to say to two artists that are probably the biggest two rappers ever.

I don’t think the ether comparison is apt either because this doesn’t rely on gay jokes or talking about TKD or whatever. It’s against his entire family and his own existence/insecurities, which is forever. The only thing in hindsight people may think was a cheap shot is the stuff against 40, but the SICK SICK SICK like SIX SIX SIX thing is engrained in my mind forever.

Yes and no, like it's brutal and disrespecting as f---. I had disgusted face through the entire song, but is it as good as No Vaseline, Hit Em Up etc. etc? I don't know honestly. Time will tell. We'll see in the next 20 years what people will say.

    It's 10/10 tho.

The 40 shots literally ruined his career and is still “repairing the damage”

I think people really are forgetting that push completely obliterated Drake in a time where drake was seen as untouchable.

@Donkey Kong Cuntry @Winter this is what I was getting at earlier about circumstances. People hype the track for what Push “exposed” rather than the merits of the track itself.

40 shots were the best part of the track imo. I’m surprised Drake still uses the “six-six-six” intro in his music lmao.

Nah, the song has merits without it but it adds a whole other dimension
