Maybe someone said something in the lead up saying this was a classic but I feel like expecting something on the level of his first couple records isn't a good mindset especially with the circumstances

Money money money is fire. Wish pop was on it but moneybag yo did his thing.

Still gotta finish up the album. X sounds a little slow on here overall but I’m not expecting 50 year olds to be as dexterous as they were in their 20s

According to Swizz, DMX embraced his age and knew he didn't have it like he used to. And during the recording of this album X mentionned retirement several times and said this would be his last body of work. That he was tired.

I'm glad DMX found that spark and motivation to deliver one last piece of work before he passed.

There's a funny quote about DMX from a book called Queens Reigns Supreme: Fat Cat, 50 Cent, and the Rise of the Hip-Hop Hustler that I'd been wanting to post for awhile but I no longer have a copy of it. I just found a picture of the passage on my phone:

People really questioned the signing of DMX. How wrong they were lol. I thought the quotes about dogs and barking were hilarious though.

Just finished it—better than I expected but it feels like DMX is barely on it. Letter to My Son is really touching.

"The people who worked there used to clown with me and say, ‘Who’s gonna buy his record, dogs?” Irv remembers. “‘What the f--- is this bs? He’s barking."

Taking into account DMX's age, backround and circumstances. At this stage of his career. This album is a 7.5.

If you leave everything out and just listen to it for what it is, probably a 5.5.

The production and features helped carry X throughout this album. But what can you realistically expect from someone who's 50, been dabbling in hard drugs since he was a teenager and spent the better part of his life in and out of jail.

As a DMX album it fails almost entirely imo, but it has some good individual songs.

Yea, the DMX decline is pretty jarring but it's hard to gage with only one album in the past 15 years.

Musically there's a lot of good parts on this album. But I get what your saying. That it feels like a Swizz Beats compilation.

I mean it's not even that DMX is bad, it's that he's barely on here at all. It's not like Dre or Kanye or someone who often lets other artists shine, DMX was always in you face, front and center. And on here it feels like he's on the sidelines

    100%

I'm curious about those 7 other songs Swizz decided to leave off the album.

We will probably get them sometime down the road.

I know swizz said the album was done but none of these tracks seemed finished aside from money money money walking in the rain bath salts and take control. Everything else feels like swizz hooks or guest appearances were added on after his death also notice how a lot of these X verses seem to just stop dead in their tracks after only going for like 40 seconds. Definitely doesn't have a finished before his passing vibe that or it was and swizz didn't feel like it was good.

I'm seeing a lot of people not liking bath salts after all this hype I wonder how swizz would feel seeing that
