Jul 27, 2015 To my dear community: Please Section Eighty turn your back to people making this site anything but a music discussion place. We have years of enjoyment ahead of us with all the quality rappers and non-hiphop artists out there. Many more members will profit from your support of an open music discussion platform. Let's get it! On debating: We need to quit being offended by people with opposing views around here. I've seen this happen too many times. Whenever someone has an opinion that runs counter to the majority of people, you treat that person with hostility instead of respect. Nobody will ever learn to think different by being insulted, you have to show them why you disagree, and be patient enough to let them understand you. Also don't always expect to be proven right, stop posting if you can't seem to make a convincing post. On trolls: You know who you are. People who make this site revolve around them. Who claim to have the site's interest at heart but never contribute to the MUSIC sxn's. People who ALWAYS talk about themselves and how others bother them. Posters who never quit being negative, and always drag the positive people down. Good willing people should pay no/little attention to trolls and their ego's. They'll fade away since they get no enjoyment besides personal attention from this site.
Jul 27, 2015 what? i agree with OP...i just dont agree with him singling out SXN80 when this is an internet problem...it happens literally everywhere...im ok with the second point...it gives OT a character so i dont care much...but i agree fully with his first point...while arguing with @Narsh , you might be able to get one post without him turning into a giant child...then its a series of posts filled with "" i am thankful that when a big album is released, we have a better community discussing it than most forums ... we have ridiculous amount of amazing posters, they can be overshadowed during music downtimes...but look at any time huge music is out...forum is filled with great posts....the day the drake-meek drama happened was amazing...we do have the best community here
Jul 27, 2015 I mentioned you because this was about sxn 80 as a community, I also agree with him to an extent tho. I do think in some cases there is no point having a normal debate (like with csw sometimes)
Jul 27, 2015 Why is the new guy telling us how the forum should be run? Especially when he's completely wrong while doing so
Jul 27, 2015 Not saying he is wrong in OP, but in some threads he also makes claims that people are wrong/being a hypocrite when they have other opinions
Jul 27, 2015 Without a doubt he has some valid points But yeah, most of it is embarrasing If it were in OT I'd think it was a troll thread
Jul 27, 2015 That's a good point. I'm always trying to be honest without being insulting. But you're right i can do a better job ofcourse. However calling out a hypocrite sometimes really is justified... you feel me?
Jul 27, 2015 Listening Club did a good job of focusing on the discussion. So did @BigCountry 's rate-this-album thread. It's definitely possible and this thread isn't the right way to bring about that change.
Jul 27, 2015 Right, and it would be nice to actually discuss ideas on here. Rather than saying "lol no one cares" or posting a meme of redman smoking a blunt or something.
Jul 27, 2015 we do try our best to make the discussion healthy...but when someone does that to you...tag a mod or report the post so we can actually handle it
Jul 27, 2015 To misquote and paraphrase the great Paul Mooney "everybody wanna be a quality poster, but don't nobody wanna be a quality poster". dig? We'd all love for the forum to be surrounded with actual music aficionados so we can be the one that balances the silly with the actual insight. But its never gonna happen. Especially not with rap fans, who (if we're being completely honest, and I'm not excluding myself in this) are probably the most close-minded of all musical fanbases outside of metal. I mean, this is a musical subculture that is basically shi--ing it's pants right now over reference tracks. REFERENCE TRACKS. We're still throwing stones at people for not adhering to a formula put forth by washed up tenants of a genre that's mutated into something almost completely different. Change is not our strong suit, and the majority of those who cannot accept a deviation from the norm in terms of quality, style, genre, etc will respond with some form of masculine aggression, ie "f--- that f--- you, this s--- sucks you f---ing pleb fa----". Rap has a strong undercurrent of testosterone flowing through it, we all recognize that. It's a lost cause to try to tell others to change that because they'll resent you for it. So if you want change, think biblical and remove the beam from your eye first before pointing out the splinter in mine. Also, have you considered that it's incredibly satisfying to tell someone that eminem sucks, or that drake has a tiny d-ck, or that your opinion is f---ing garbage? I think we're all guilty of doing this and if you can avoid the popularity contest aspect of online forum discussion then it's usually a matter of "best wit wins". So take those that "troll" you as the kind of low-level rats you k--- in the beginning of a role playing game, and grind on them until you've got your skills up. Then, they should be no problem to you.
