Jul 12, 2024 This album is an awesome execution of what happens when you have a person with lots of money, time, and the resources (the original masters and recordings), and some creativity still in the noggin to fuel the process... It starts off strong. Not just because it sounds like Eminem from 2000, but because the beats are good and I can understand him. The concept is pretty weak, I feel like Slim Shady would have gone HARD against modern Eminem, instead of the weak little "you're a p---- now" comments. No comments about how he sold out with Recovery, Revival, how MMLP2 was a weak effort? Feel like he could have gave the fans a bit more of what they wanted, Eminem digging into himself more, and he'd have the last laugh with this superb album. f---, give the Relapse fans something at least, I feel like Slim would have loved that album. I got to the end of Guilty Conscience 2 and that's when I finally went..."OK...that was...OK." You realize you just went through like 9 tracks, and Slim was on most, and he did have some crazy lines...but I wanted more. I realize Eminem probably realized no other legitimate, famous rapper is interested in beefing with him, but man it's kinda boring when he's just attacking crowds, and the fact one of the skits was this news event about how mobs are forming to protest him...The Cosby, Epstein, Diddy and Cassie, Amber Heard lines all went hard. Just surprised how little he actually went at people. I barely got through Head Honcho, Temporary does not fit on this album, and I literally stopped 1 minute into Bad One. I'll eventually resume it. I really wish this album was just Eminem and Shady. Everyone else on this album just sounds out of place. Like this should have been JUST Eminem. I've said this before but I'll reiterate. He should not have revealed that it's a "concept" album. The precedent he set was too high. Maybe a 10 track could be a nice concept album, but he has way too many tracks here. He should have just let us figure it out. First impression: Tracks 1-11 (excluding skits) are all great, superb even, but everything after...well...maybe I'll sleep on it and feel more positive about em...(get it?)
Jul 12, 2024 I agree 100%. He just didn't have the balls to really diss himself- or he doesn't have the lucidity anymore, which would be sad but very plausible
Jul 12, 2024 It’s funny Old Boy thread banned me from the main album thread cuz I called it that the concept execution would be meh. A cooler and more interesting concept would be if Eminem was doubtful, and Shady was causing that doubt, telling him his new music sucks, he’s now “the grandfather (who) raps” so many ways he coulda gone about it and he just went with having Slim try to get him “cancelled.” Maybe he stirs up more controversy nowadays than we think? Either way, it’s a new day. Time to roll a joint and spin the album again.
Jul 12, 2024 Man one really corny criticism is…”he’s 50!! It’s cringe!!” So now since he’s older he can no longer have fun? Anyone who disqualifies the album based on this notion is a loser. I seriously can’t imagine putting an age limit on art. We all still wanna be kids again, running around, not giving a f---, but when someone gives off that childlike carefree-ness through their music? Suddenly it’s “cringe.” What’s even more cringe is tryna teach people how to do taxes and invest like Jay-Z on 4:44. Go open a f---ing class or something you dipshit, making music like that so he can say, “see I helped the youth!!”
Jul 12, 2024 Someone in the main album thread said he’s ripping on the trans community. Eminem literally proving points. He said he’s cool with trans just doesn’t wanna f--- em, and that makes him a transphobe cuz he can’t get past how they used to be men. So f---ing on point. “But his child is trans!!” Oh so he has plenty of experience dealing with trans, gotcha
Jul 12, 2024 That whole bit about onset diabetes and how we should "coddle" people, just speaking the absolute truth about how backwards everything is nowadays. Man this album is a f---ing classic. Really feels like authentic Eminem, we've been hearing for the past few years how he's the best and this and that but never really had much insight into how he feels about society as a whole. I'm glad he had the balls to say some of the stuff he said on this album.
Jul 12, 2024 I seriously don't understand why he refuses to work with him. It surely can't solely be over some quarrel about his sobriety that happened over a decade ago. I feel like there's more behind it.
Jul 12, 2024 Anti-Christ is the best display of Slim Shady coming back to ruin everything. Listen to Shady’s lyrics. This is classic Eminem rhetoric
Jul 12, 2024 The song to Hailie, for something that's supposed to be so emotional is hells short. It's like a 3 sentence verse.
Jul 13, 2024 Alright folks, how we feeling, a few days after? I haven’t listened since the release. Honestly, I’m anxious. I stopped listening to rap in general for the past few years, just never had an interest in rap in the 2010s and now. anyway, gonna smoke a joint and listen again, see if I think of it differently
Jul 14, 2024 Think Habits might be my favorite track. Renaissance is a close second. EDIT: Scratch that, Evil is the fav, Renaissance 2nd, Habits 3rd
Jul 16, 2024 f---ing christ, the moment in Renaissance where he goes "Now let's travel inside the mind of a hater" and onward is sick.
Jul 16, 2024 "I don't appeal to you? You was one of them children whose Parents fed every meal to you on a platter and silver spoon" Realest s--- ever. I noticed every person who doesn't like Eminem generally comes from nice upbringings. The type of people to look down on "others."
Jul 16, 2024 Alright, think I'm ready to write my final review... Thread will be titled "CombatMan's Review of The Death of Slim Shady (Or the Only Review You Need to Read) EDIT: Bad One is incredibly underrated holy f---, might be the best track on the album...
