Most of the religious people in my family are some of the most hypocritical and mentally ill people I know. They never practice what they preach, they are manipulative, sin on a daily basis, and so judgmental to others. Christians specifically, they pick and choose what’s in the bible.

I believe in God but also a lil bit of Gnosticism so while I consider myself Christian I’d ironically prolly be burned at the stake any time before the 1900s

I grew up Protestant, became atheist at 12, started kinda having general spiritual vibes in my early 20s and the combination of certain interesting concepts (like someone mentioned the flood just being a ripoff of the epic of Gilgamesh, when there’s proof the Middle East had once-in-a-millenia flooding around the time the Bible states that incident took place) and literally every significant powerful person in the world either believing in an abrahamic religion or occult/satanic ones has led me to believe there’s far more truth to these religions than the baseline modern nihilist atheist lets on

Grew up Catholic. Went through catechism when I was a kid due to my grandparents but very quickly recognized I wasn’t religious. Since like my teen years I’ve been atheist.

I do think there are some positives that come from religious practice though. In particular the creation of community & being a space outside of work & home to socialize. I tend to feel like those kind of spaces are increasingly disappearing in American society.

The bible is full of tales that a man had written from other transcripts. If you believe other than that I'd just let you carry on with your delusion as everyone is entitled to believe what they want.

And the times of Gilgamesh predate Mesopotamia so I'm sure you're right lmao we're talking thousands and thousands of years.

I wouldn't support anything that tries to make out the bible is factual lmao. Beware of them dragons now buddy. Don't forget the giant bow and arrow today.

The bible is full of contradictions. Funny thing is Jesus Christ name wasn’t even that. The letter j didn’t exist, nor was he white. In fact the real Jews god name was Yah, but Roman’s changed the text. Israel history been altered intentionally. Most of the bible is full of stories. Religion is so funny, how everyone is convinced thier god is the right one. Go to India, go to Japan, go the South America. They all just use faith as a way to cope with life.

There’s a lot more depth and nuance than that but you seem like ur in that condescending Redditor phase so it’s probably not worth the trouble, I’ll just say yes I believe some things are entirely metaphorical and no the entirety of the bible is not just rehashes of older stories there is just a concerted effort to engage w Christianity in bad faith and say things like “well Gilgamesh had a big flood too so even tho the epic of Gilgamesh and the writings about Noah were further apart than 2026 from Julius Caesar, it’s actually all just the same event”
