    This is already been posted in the dragon ball thread but I wouldn’t have became a anime fan if it wasn’t for Akira Toriyama. Dragon ball z was the god father to the anime world in the west. I can’t express enough what impact dragon ball had.

    If y'all like Manga you can subscribe to the Shueisha MangaPlus app. It's like 2$/month and you can read tons of manga (mostly Shonen but also some other stuff). Really well worth it, considering one tankobon volume of a single manga costs around 10$

    So tragic, I can guarantee you even the most nìche slice of life mangaka was inspired by Toriyama...

    we all probably became anime fans because of dragon ball. Rather you’re a fan or not . The impact it had on making anime popular and then all the anime that got inspired by that series. The big 3 might not even been a thing If dragon ball didn’t lay down the foundation first.

    Naruto was inspired by dragon ball . As was hunter x hunter. Hunter was obviously. But these are anime that acknowledged being inspired by dbz. I love how the entire anime community was like yeah he deserves his dues he really did all this . I guess solo leveling is doing a head nod to goku in the next episode to pay respect. Solo leveling wasn’t even manga. That wasn’t Japanese. And you’re still getting the nod ?

    As a 90’s baby. Dragon Ball was the first real mainstream anime for our generation here in the USA. That and Pokémon. Literally nothing was bigger. And then The Big 3 Happen and that was my peak time as a anime fan. From 2003-2015…. And then I kinda stop watching anime. I haven’t even watched the popular stuff nowadays. Once Naruto ended, I stop reading shonen jump weekly. Except one pice, I read online still just because it’s a weekly tradition that I’ve been doing for like 15 years now. But as far as anime, I don’t think I’ll ever get back into watching new stuff cuz I don’t care as much as I did when I was a teen. My favorite anime is YuYu Hakusho , Code Geass & Gurren Lagan because they are series I can always go back to and get nostalgia for

    have you watched code geass: Re;surrection ? It took me almost 2 years after its release to watch it because I thought it was just going to be a money grab. It actually wasn’t bad. It came out in 2019. It’s a movie I don’t think they ever turned it into an actual season 3. Also later this year they are doing a code geass spin off.

    I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I’ve only seen it once. But I’ll probably watch it all before the spinoff gets here. I’m actually pretty sure they turned season one and two into a movie as well. Not sure how they turned out
