My point was I only knew about the thing happening. I didn’t know all the details. So knowing what I knew that someone died during police procedure probably, because of an use of excessive force I said basically that looting is wrong and people that did that thing used the death of the person as an excuse. I didn’t say protesting is wrong or being mad at the whole situation is.

would like to also point out, to all you ppl who think there's a "right" way to protest, that over the past five years there are numerous instances of so-called "open carry advocates"––white men who parade around with assault rifles in plain sight––who march through downtowns, try to provoke security and police at businesses, and even occupy government buildings. these people are not arrested, or tear gassed, or hit with flashbangs, or pounded with rubber bullets, or knelt on until they suffocate.

if a single black person brandished an ar-15 last night the minneapolis police would have shot a dozen people, no doubt.

there is no behavioral threshold for "acceptable protest"; protest is acceptable when it's done by a certain kind of person, and it's unacceptable coming from anyone else.

is that what im saying? again im glad you guys have a cursory knowledge of the nations violent past but you must also be cognizant that change is frequently, deliberately slow and there's a number of instances of quieter change that isn't nearly as theatrical or destructive that have advanced the country. ffs the black panthers were largely a peaceful org. was it a massive full blown riot that led to gay marriage being accepted, or was it will & grace lol. u guys shouldnt assume im some dunce pollyanna bc i dont fully support the ~valueeeeee of pillaging distraught urban centers

i know this is threading a needle, especially online where its this weird zero sum game but here me out: you can view the gov/police's response as gross injustice, but also decry mob mentality and crippling economic violence WHILE ALSO understanding why riots happen. again, not appreciating the long term neg impacts of these riots, or the community bruises that are left behind bc it feels righteous to safely encourage them afar is short sighted. tragedy shouldnt begat tragedy.

tongue in check, cmon. riots are mostly an understandable social reaction to injustice - but that's diff from justifying them in the moment ffs. They're still unhealthy and despite what @WPG reads, counterproductive. plenty of nonviolent protests enacted change, what a cynical and rly gross view of history.
