Like somewhere along the lines in the blog era, mixtapes changed from being songs of an artist rapping over other artists’ beats to just straight up being thought-out, cohesive projects. And now in the streaming era those lines are even more blurred to the point where everything released should just be considered an album. With the exception of Wayne putting out rehashes of his old mixtapes.

do kids these days even listen to albums the way we do? I mean until I really started to fall in love with the artistry that goes into making an album, I used to download a zip file and just play it on shuffle in my iTunes not even listening in order. Who knows how kids take it in these days. I’d imagine similarly

The biggest copout retort of all time. Try again. It's not hard to gain networking traction. The n----- has had opportunities out the wazoo since he was f---ing 13. Don't start with me. God. Typical.

Sales will never equate to the objectivity of one's output quality. The plausibility that it has a certain outreach appeal because the artist relaying it has an influential pull on The Vanilla AF Normie Demographic; that's the only thing you could truly vouch for, drawing from "Statistics". The n----- is afraid to take real risks.

This is why I applaud artists like Carti. Drake has rarely surprised me in his career with any of his moves. They're all calculated and safe. Take Care was the closest he got to going all in and letting the critics of his vulnerability take it in their eyeballs.

"Here c-ms my unabashedly relinquished veil of predisposition-based proportions."

Mixtapes are basically albums that are either

    1. Free
    2. Less worked on/cohesive
    3. Unoriginal (reused beats etc.)

Rarely is it 3 anymore. With the introduction of commercial mixtapes its more often than not just a less 'refined' album that still cost $9.99 and are on streaming with cleared samples etc.

We need to bring back more No Ceilings type tapes but I imagine with how hard it is just to make money off your music nowadays every little bit counts. Not to mention we've seen a rise in people getting sued for using uncleared samples, even on a mixtape.

Websites like Leakthis and PlusPremieres make me think a lot of people are still downloading their music.
