but you know what’s going to happen as a result of this—as biden has already signaled. we’re going to get more legalized surveillance in the name of combatting “terrorism,” more sentencing enhancements, etc. but in much the same way the patriot act was largely used to bust small-time d--- dealers, most of these people from the capitol—who i agree were potentially very dangerous!—will in time go back to being lawyers or sporting goods store owners or basement-dwelling internet trolls, and the new laws and legal/policing might will be used against community activists/union organizers/etc.

edit: i agree that clearly identifying culprits here and holding them accountable is very important but i think if that happens, it will and should be a political process, no? we need to call a spade a spade w/r/t the cruz’s and hawleys of the world

i’m really responding to grimace saying “these people” deserved to die. is it understandable that the one woman gets shot and killed? sure. not disputing that. but he’s a guy who was very ready to talk about structural problems with policing this summer and now seems to be frothing at the mouth to crack skulls of people he doesn’t like.
