Jul 23, 2015 Drake would be taking a L if he didn't credit the n----- credited him, meek doesn't know the term ghost writer if he think he won, all he got is the stupid n----s that don't know what a reference track is acting like meek got a W This whole thing is meek forgetting this is a business u can't talk out your a--- without repercussions
Jul 23, 2015 Based on sales alone. He simply is, along with Eminem, the biggest hip hop artist right now. There is no deny to that, what ever you think of his music...
Jul 23, 2015 Fair enough, he's still both a pop and a rap artist.. like Em. I have my preference, but he's unique in the game.
Jul 23, 2015 Nah Meek has a point. "Don't compare me to people who don't write their own stuff." He was wrong about calling it a 'ghoswriter' since Drake technically gave credit.. But his initial point stands strong.
Jul 23, 2015 Maybe i have to agree that Drake and Kanye are uncredited for their talent to curate good music/lyrics.
Jul 23, 2015 Meek said he don't write his own s--- in a song called ain't me, so what he gonna act like he never said that?
Jul 23, 2015 I think Gillie backed off the claims. He was around mostly during the Carter 1 days. They had a little back and forth for awhile, but it did die down eventually. Cannon by Gillie and Problem Solver by Wayne were the main tracks. Wayne also had a line on Live From 504 "I'm a shark in the water, yep I swim with the big, so I don't have time to deal with Willy The Squid.
Jul 23, 2015 The difference is that hip-hop listeners were under the impression that Drake writes everything. Those writing credits could have been coproducers for all they cared. This isn't a Kanye or a Dre who are chiefly producers, this is somebody the masses would have their little dumb a--- barbershop debates about. Also a rapper whose fans feel a personal connection with. Then they got the type of reference track that offers solid proof to the contrary. They feel deceived and Drake fans, for the most part, are busier denying or obscuring it more than they are saying that it's part of the game and has been forever since Sugarhill g--- bit Grandmaster Caz.
Jul 23, 2015 Yo, but Caz's lyrics were stolen and he never received credit from Big Bank Hank. So that's kinda a different situation. I agree that ghostwriting has been in hip hop for a long time though.
Jul 23, 2015 Agree for the most part. But it was 10 Bands. I would be a lot more upset if there were reference tracks for songs like From Time, Lord Knows, Over My Dead Body, Club Paradise etc.
Jul 23, 2015 My point was that hip-hop was founded on shady behavior but still acts like sole authorship is essential. Meek made that debatable. That's all it takes.
Jul 23, 2015 He definitely did. He sort of apologized at his show last night, but still hasn't backed off his claim that Drake didn't write his RICO verse.
