This is a strange position for you to take anyway considering you don't even believe in IQ tests. If intelligence can't be measured by IQ tests, then the question whether group differences in IQ scores are due to genetics or not shouldn't concern you, because it's the wrong question. Isn't that what you just did here, by citing an article in rebuttal to a paper you clearly didn't read on a subject you clearly know nothing about? Instead of weighing both sides of the debate, you just found a quote from an environmentalist critic and thought, "You know what? I like what this guy is saying!" and stopped reading there. Not that there is much of a debate here: From your own article that you didn't even read. Just like res, you haven't gotten any smarter over the years. If citing Cofnas makes me a white supremacist, then Charlie Work must also be a white supremacist, since he cited Cofnas when we were debating about Jewish influence, specifically this paper where he argues that outsize Jewish influence is mainly due to high Jewish IQ (as opposed to a conspiracy), which is up to 17 points higher than that of non-Jewish whites on average. And Cofnas is Jewish, so I guess that makes him a Jewish supremacist, at least according to your logic!

It does concern me because these kinds of arguments have been used to justify horrible atrocities from slavery to genocide. And I know you know that. The article itself illustrates that the wider academic community finds Cofnas’s research problematic from a methodological stand point. They’re literally arguing that it should have never been published. I’m not nitpicking for some fringe outlier academic here. Cofnas is the fringe academic in this case. Also, this isn’t his only work that academics have found issues with. Omar Wasow had to explain the difference between correlation/causation some years back. Dude was totally dumbfounded about the most prominent research on public opinion too: to be clear: I think you’re a white supremacist because you ran around this forum on a million alts for over a year posting Holocaust denial bs. But yes, I think citing a fringe academic who other academics have consistently found issues with is probably not the best person to role model your entire belief system on.

But by quoting them, you are, at least in the context of this debate, adopting them as your own, so in that sense they are your criticisms. If you don't stand by them, then retract them. Appealing to (so-called) authority is a cop-out, not to mention a logical fallacy. Except, judging from their mischaracterizations of it, they either didn't understand the paper or they're strawmanning it. As I said, the author never argues that "the best explanation of differences in IQ scores between racial and ethnic groups is genetics" or discounts environmental factors. The title of the article is "Research on group differences in intelligence: A defense of free inquiry", and he leaves the genetic explanation as an open question. He never volunteers his own personal conclusion either way, preferring to remain neutral and objective, and instead weighs the different findings of researchers within the field and leaves the reader to make up his own mind. But you obviously haven't, so how do you know if what they say about it is true? The author isn't pushing those kinds of arguments. In fact, he's trying to preempt them: If you read between the lines, Cofnas is an academic activist just like his most vehement critics seemingly to his left. I say "seemingly" because they aren't in any meaningful way ideologically opposed to his ideas, even if they don't know it. Actually, they're on the same team (i.e. liberalism), with Cofnas simply being ahead of the curve on this particular issue. If you were perceptive enough to realize this, as a pragmatist you would probably support his work. The wider academic community is probably unfamiliar with Cofnas's work, since dissidents like him are still a voice in the wilderness. As for many of his critics, it's more accurate to say they find his work problematic from an ideological perspective, just as you do. But they misread his intent. However, as far as his own field goes, he's in great company: In any case, the truth is not a popularity pissing contest. And how do you know this isn't a misrepresentation (deliberate or in error) of his argument if you're unwilling to read both sides of the debate? "You know what? I like what this guy is saying!" seems to sum up your thought process better than it does mine. You do realize one of the critics cited in your article was inspired by The Bell Curve, right? LOL, you really didn't read past the second paragraph, did you? I'm ideologically at odds with Cofnas on more than one level, but good try.
