After careful consideration I've gotta go with Its Dark and h--- is Hot. I guess it's the same for a lot of debut albums, the hunger is at the peak of intensity. Faultless piece of work and perfectly sets his entire discography for that certain sound. The "X" factor if you will...

Sorry for the late update guys, I threw my back out at work and the pst few days have been a bit s-----y, but we’re back for another one. A special one.

Decided to switch it up a bit for this one. Today we’re gonna vote on our favourite from the first wave of Wu Tang solo albums that came out between the release of 36 Chambers and Wu Tang forever. These are objectively some of the greatest rap albums of all time, so I’m interested to see what everyone’s pick is.

I’ve spent extensive time with each and every one of these albums. I still listen to them religiously. In my opinion, the answer here is obvious. OB4CL is THE greatest album of all time. The purple tape is my bible. Even though it’s such an easy choice for me, I’m still going to say that 4 of these albums are in my top 15, maybe even top 10. This is as good as it gets.

I feel pretty confident in saying OB4CL is the best, but I don't think Liquid Swords is super far off.

Basically if you were to put Liquid Swords up against almost any other album besides OB4CL, it would win. But OB4CL is just so special. It’s better than illmatic in my opinion

tough decision between the two but I think OB4CL has edge—Liquid Swords will always be special to me as the first solo Wu album I fell in love with.

Haven’t listened to these albums in at least half a decade. Need some time to make a decision, no doubt my opinion now will differ from back then.

What’s your opinion on the other albums? Because I don’t get enough chances to talk about how odb verse on raw hide is my favourite verse of all time.

also is shimmy shimmy ya the most prolific song to come out of the Wu tang camp? That or baby I got your money

Honestly haven't heard any of those in years besides Ironman—all great albums that get neglected simply because there's so many AAA albums from Wu. I'm bout to throw on the ODB album cuz I was just thinking about him when I was listening to Danny Brown's Old yesterday (which was originally called ODB ). We don't talk enough about how influential ODB was in general.

Could not disagree more. Tical is a decent album but no where on the level of the other 4. I guess I’ve never really cares for m--- as a solo artist at all, only with Wu or with red

All of these albums are in that certified classic category that keeps me revisiting them time and time again. I think I could recite these all backward lol. Besides Tical and you could probably make a solid argument for any of them being the best but my personal pick would be Liquid Swords. It was one of the first albums I remember completely nerding out to, trying to figure out the hidden meaning in every single bar, just listening on repeat for weeks at a time. And that cinematically grimy sound that RZA produced that I'm pretty sure shaped my music taste forever.

Tbh at this point I'd put Enter the Wu above any of these. Thats just utter perfection on the same level as Illmatic, MBDTF, etc. to me.

More inclined to listen to Tical than Return to the 36 Chambers, honestly, at least in full. ODB got some 10/10 songs but I’ve got no desire to listen to either of his albums front to back at this point.

I've said this in the past and I'll say it again. I've been a die-hard West Coast fan since I was a teenager. Never got into the majority of the East Coast sound. But I'd love to.

Nothing taking me away from X for a while yet though.

Absolute tragedy and one of the biggest what if stories is the flood that damaged RZA's studio which impacted Inspectah Deck's debut. If that didn't happen then I wonder what the original would've sounded like.

    Liquid Swords for me

The thing is I’ve heard enter the Wu SO many times in my life that I need to take a 5 year break from it. I know every single song like the back of my hand, from the track list to every single word of every verse. What liquid swords was to you, that album was to me

it’s not all bad though, because of that I’ve been exploring other routes to scratch my Wu itch and it’s going great. Albums like iron flag and the w are a lot better than I remembered them being

If you’re looking to get into the east I promise you this is the best place to start. Listen to only built 4 Cuban linx, it is THE GREATEST RAP ALBUM ever made. Every song is classic status

forgot how great rza verse on this was

I second this @icecube . You should really give Wu a chance (when you're done bumping X of course). All the albums in the poll are at least worth checking out. But would strongly suggest starting with Enter the Wu
