Sep 10, 2023 I always sound like a contrarian in this thread but I swear I don’t mean to. This is just how I feel. That new Cardi B and Meg song “Bongos” is good and very fun. On first and second listen, it’s not as good as WAP but I still enjoy it. The lyrics do not bother me. Then again I don’t get disgusted by a lot of things, I’m pretty desensitized to most things. The music video is nice too. Honestly Cardi B rarely misses. Meg has a lot of bangers too but she sometimes misses like on her last album.

Sep 10, 2023 That type of thing used to bother me, but I feel like most artists talk about the same s--- over and over again anyway so it doesn’t really bother me as long as it sounds good. I guess certain artists recycle topics more frequently than others. I see this sexual s--- as Cardi’s and Megan’s way of bragging like the male rappers often do with money or accolades. It’s just part of the genre, and women’s bodies and sexuality have always been more sought after than men. So they rap about this sought after thing they own

Sep 10, 2023 Yeah I feel like a crazy person because I love music right now. The amount of posts on social media and YouTube I’ve seen about hip hop dying and music being bad now is wild. I don’t understand this big shift at all, but I think there’s a lot of factors going into it… most of which have nothing to do with the actual music. I feel like all I ever see is people hating on anything new now, even on this forum. I don’t see how the quality of music right now is that different from the quality of music pre-COVID.
Sep 10, 2023 Yeah WAP was definitely funny af first time I heard it, Bongos isn’t really funny. It’s also clear that they’re kinda trying to recreate the spirit of WAP so it’s just not working as well. I think it’s different enough though. I’ll never forget Ben Shapiro rapping the lyrics to WAP… that s--- was hilarious. I don’t think Bongos will cause as much of an uproar

Sep 10, 2023 Yeah just listened to Bongos, I also think I'm mostly desensitized from listening to actual bottom of the barrel garbage (Shout out to Brad Taste videos) so in comparison this isn't too bad lol. This is prolly like a 4-5/10, beat is a bit annoying and Cardi's cadence can be ear grating at points on some songs
Sep 10, 2023 Good point, I think that’s definitely a big part of it. I think another thing that’s happening is people are overstimulating themselves. Some people are consuming too much music, so much so that they are becoming jaded to it all which negatively influences the way they feel about new music. Our brains aren’t built to constantly consume all the huge amounts of information we consume from the internet everyday now. I’m speaking from my own experience lmao, I had to disconnect for a while but I enjoy music again
